The Trustees

The great-great niece of Sir George, Sarah runs Golden Frog, a PR and Marketing Agency in Ripon, North Yorkshire. Sarah works with various local charities, and having long admired the work of the Trust, joined the trustees in 2018. Sarah became Vice-Chair in June 2023.

Janet is a great niece of Sir George and daughter of (former chairman,) Robert Martin and has been a trustee since 1998. She is a recently retired language lecturer and teacher trainer from De Montfort University. In her retirement she is enjoying devoting more time to trustee work as well as tennis, world music and gardening.

Morven is the Trust’s investment expert, working for Redmayne Bentley for over 25 years. Her role is to hold the Sir George Martin Trust’s investment managers to account and ensure the longevity of the Trust financially. Morven joined the board in 2013 and became Chair in June 2023. Away from work Morven loves to travel, spend time with her family and play sport.

Prior to joining the Trust in 2013, Carla worked in the PR industry for 20 years, starting out in the Cancer Research UK press office. As well as being responsible for the day-to-day running of the Trust, Carla is the Consultant Coordinator of Yorkshire Funders which provides learning and networking opportunities for grantmakers in the region and she is also Chair of the Leeds Building Society Foundation.

Andrew has been a private client solicitor at Wrigleys Solicitors, Leeds since 1999 and became a trustee of the Sir George Martin trust in early 2021. He has been a trustee of the Leeds Community Foundation and is also a trustee of other family charitable trusts and also his local village community trust. He is also a member of The Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners and has served as secretary of the local Yorkshire STEP branch.

Ailsa has worked in the voluntary sector for 18 years and is CEO of Older People’s Action in the Locality (OPAL), which is one of the Leeds Neighbourhood Network Schemes. In 2022 she was awarded the MBE for services to older people in the community, particularly during Covid-19, and Ailsa is one of the third sector representatives at the Leeds Frailty Partnership. In her spare time, Ailsa likes to spend time with her family, go running and walk her dog. She joined the trustee board in 2022.

Haqueq is the Lead Officer at West Bowling Youth Initiative, a charity working with children and families in south Bradford, as well as being the Chair of Woodroyd Nursery and a trustee at Bowling Old Lane Cricket Club. Haqueq likes watching sport and travelling in his spare time. He joined the Sir George Martin Trust board in 2022.

Liam was born, lives and completed his Public Sector Management BA (Hons) in the city of Bradford. He wears many hats, including being Chief Executive of Bradford-based charity, Primetime at The Vine and Head of Business Development for Cinnamon Network UK (which includes managing grant-giving and fundraising). Liam also holds several voluntary and trustee roles within the Bradford District and joined the Sir George Martin Trust board in 2022.

Jason joined the Sir George Martin Trust board in November 2023 and is Chair of our Finance & Investment Committee.  Jason is a Fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants (FCCA) and a Chartered Secretary (ACG) and has worked in various senior positions across Healthcare, Higher Education, Civil Service, Housing and Local Government.  Jason is currently Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Chief Executive at St Gemma’s Hospice based in Leeds.  Jason loves spending time with his family, playing sport, is a coach and referee for a local junior football team.
